Asbestos (from Greek word, meaning "unquenchable")
is composed of a group of naturally occurring silicate mineral fibers with unique qualities. It is abundant and relatively inexpensive. It has high tensile strength and superior insulation values, acoustical properties, and, has been used extensively for many decades in the construction industry in homes and commercial buildings in products and materials including
*thermal insulation systems
*pipe, boiler, tank, furnace and duct insulation
*surfacing material such as fireproofing, wall & ceiling texture,
(popcorn ceiling), plaster & wallboard, floor tile,linoleum, adhesives,ceiling tiles, roofing materials, cement
asbestos, siding & attic insulation, vermiculite, clutch & brake assemblies, and over 3,500 other products!
Any material, containing 1% (one per cent) or greater of asbestos, is defined as an Asbestos Containing Material (ACM).

Caution to Homeowners/renters: Removing asbestos containing materials by yourself could potentially spread asbestos fibers throughout your home resulting in asbestos related illness and/or death.
Prior to building demolition or renovation activities, the State of Montana, Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), requires that an asbestos inspection be performed by a trained asbestos inspector, licensed and accredited by the DEQ.
